The CLEP Exam in Biology
In order to test how skilled people are in Biology at the undergraduate level, the US College Board put in place the CLEP Biology exam, which gives credit in about 3,000 colleges in the country. This is helpful in doing away with the introductory exams.
The Biology exam is divided into three sections, which are cellular and molecular biology (taking 33% of the test), population biology (also 33%), and 34% covering organismal biology.
The topics covered in the cellular and molecular biology section include organisms' chemical composition, enzymes, cells, energy transformations, the gene's chemical nature, and cell division. Under the organismal section, the topics covered are plant reproduction & development; animal reproduction & development; structure & function of plants, particularly focusing on angiosperms; structure & function of animals, focusing on vertebrates; as well as heredity principles.
Here are some of the topics you will cover in the Population Biology subsection: evolution principles; principles of ecology; behavior principles; as well as social biology.
In the biology exam, there are 115 questions of multiple-choice type that have to be completed in ninety minutes, after which there will be an unofficial score report. The report is scaled between 20 and 80 and you need to score at least 50 in order to pass. The total score is determined from the correct numbers that are adjusted in line with the difficulty of the given exam. You should preferably answer every question since unanswered questions are considered as incorrect ones. Although some of the questions are pre-test ones, determining which they really are is not easy, which is another reason why you should do all tests as these are not added to the total score.
You can register for the biology exam online by going to the website of the College Board. The exam is available in both paper and computer formats at more than one thousand centers in different parts of the world.
